Student Visa Subclass 500
The Student Visa Subclass 500 lets you participate in an eligible course of study in Australia. If you are planning to take a course or certification in Australia like a VET course at TAFE course this visa also suits you perfectly. Just keep in mind that you need to be already enrolled in a course to study in Australia in order to apply for this visa.
What are the requirements to apply for this visa?
Confirmation of enrolment
To apply for student visas you should show evidence of enrolment in an educational institution in a full-time course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas students.
This document is called a confirmation of enrolment (CoE). If you are applying outside of Australia you should provide a confirmation of enrolment for each course of study with your visa application.
On the other hand, if you apply inside of Australia you should provide a Confirmation of enrolment for all intended courses. You must provide this document at the memento of the application.
Remember that if you are applying for more than 1 course, you should include all CoE codes in the application form, otherwise your visa will only cover the CoE provided.
English sufficiency
You need to provide evidence of your english skills if you are applying for a student visa. Remember that you can be asked to provide this document at any time, while processing your application or since the very beginning.
You can either take the IELTS test, the PTE Academic Test or the TOEFL. It all depends on your preferences.
Health insurance
You must be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover (OSCH) from an approved Australian health insurance provider. The cover must start from the day you arrive in Australia, not the day your course starts.
Genuine temporary entrant
You have to be a genuine temporary entrant and intend to return home after finishing your studies in Australia. However, do not be afraid if you have a goal of migration to Australia after your studies, you totally can work on this goal but once you are there finishing your studies.
If you are already in Australia
If you are already in Australia you must hold an eligible visa. You can’t apply for any student visas in Australia while unlawful so be sure your previous visa does not expire when applying for the student visa or in the process.

Also, you are able to work up to 40 hours every 2 week-period once your course starts but you are not allowed to work more than that. There is an exception on summer vacations where you are allowed to work full-time.

It costs AUD620 for the main applicant and there is also an extra charge for each family member.
Training Visa Subclass 407
This visa is for students that are going to take part in work-based occupational training activities to improve their skills in their job or any specific area of study. Also, if they seek to have professional development by participating in a training program in Australia.
With this visa, you can also participate in a classroom-based professional development training program other than just work, but remember that this visa is not for you if you primarily just want to work, in this case, you can apply for a Working visa instead.
With this visa you can stay in Australia for up to 2 years.
What are the requirements to apply for this visa?
Sponsor
You need to have a sponsor and this sponsor must be approved as a temporary activities sponsor. Also, your sponsor has to nominate you to participate in a program of occupational training.
Age
You must be 18 years old or older if you want to apply to this visa.
If you are already in Australia
If you are already in Australia, you must hold a valid visa, otherwise you won’t be able to apply for the Training visa.
Health standards
When applying for this visa you will also be assessed on your health as a part of the visa application process. In the government official website you will find out if you need health examinations and what health examinations you need.
Genuine temporary entrant
You have to be a genuine temporary entrant and intend to return home after finishing your training in Australia. As we said before, you will be able to change plans and find the best ways to stay in Australia in a lawful way if that is what you want.
